Clubs

To enhance our student's high school experience, Science Hill offers a wide variety of clubs, teams, and organizations for students to become involved in.

 

Appalachian Service Project (ASP)

Jamie White, Celia Street

Purpose: To help eradicate substandard housing in Central Appalachia and to develop relationship between service-minded students, faculty and families while seeking significance within our community.

When: Thursdays, when announced.

 

Army JROTC

Mike Mestan

Purpose: To encourage young people to become better citizens.

Ascend Club

Melanie Lee

Purpose: To get students outdoors and active through climbing that focuses on distance and altitude while utilizing math skills.

Asian Appreciation Club

Sean Samual

Purpose: Educate students about Asian culture and build community and friendship within the students.

When: Thursdays, when announced.

 

A/V and Esports Club

Micah Ridley

Purpose: To help students build confidence by preparing for real world events and improving communication while competing at top level events.

When: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-4:30P, Room 602

 

Beta Club: 9-12

Bess Laufenberg, Kiki Garman, Amy Rigsby

Purpose: Beta club provides top SHHS students with opportunities to lead and serve in their community. The club completes service projects that benefit Science Hill High School or the larger Johnson City community. To become a member, a ninth grade student must have earned two A’s and two B’s in the core subjects in 8th grade. A 10th-12th grade student must have a GPA of 3.5 or better.

When: Last Tuesday of each month in the cafeteria

 

Book Club 

Suzanne Reaves

Purpose: To promote a love of reading and provide space to discuss books in order to enhance social connections as students share ideas and perspectives.

When: Last Thursday of the month, Location determined week prior to meeting

 

Chess Club

Melissa Phillips

Purpose: The purpose is to provide equipment and a location for students to play chess.

When: 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month from 3 to 4PM, Room A289

 

Coding Club

Jaime Andrews

Purpose: Coding club uses programming languages to solve problems and explore computer science.

When: Thursdays from 3 to 4PM, Room A238

 

Debate Club (Public Forum Debate Club)

Russel Minatel

Purpose: To provide an opportunity for the students to engage in debate activities on a competitive level to improve their communication, analytical and problem solving skills.

When: Mondays from 3 to 4P, Room 509

 

Disc Golf Club

Kiki Garman

Purpose: Practice the fundamentals of disc golf, including etiquette and competition rules. It is one of the most inclusive and inexpensive sports, any student who likes being outside will find disc golf enjoyable.

When: Bi-Monthly on Fridays at Wing Deer Park or Room 508

 

Dungeons & Dragons Club

Russel Minatel

Purpose: The Dungeons and Dragons Club at SHHS gives creative students an opportunity to socialize with other students, write adventures, and tell stories collaboratively with friends.

When: Tuesdays from 3 to 5PM, Library* (subject to change for testing)

 

Fashion Club

Purpose: To help and guide students interested in fashion as a career path or a hobby to enhance skills on creating and designing fashion pieces in a self-expressive way.

FCCLA Social Health Services

Purpose: Provide opportunities for personal development, strengthen the function of the family, encourages democracy, encourages individual and group involvement, promotes greater understanding between youth and adults, etc.

Purpose: To provide an opportunity for students to give back to the community by preparing sandwiches that will be donated to Good Samaritan to be distributed to the homeless population.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

Purpose: To provide fellowship and unity among students and student athletes

Hats for the Homeless

Purpose: To knit hats in order to donate them to various clothing drives and homeless shelters throughout the community

Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA)

Purpose: To enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skills, and leadership development of all health science education students.

Purpose: The Herald aims to shine light on as many events, achievements, and students as possible. We pride ourselves on producing beneficial, factual, and informational stories that keep us all informed and broaden our perspectives on key issues. We will cover clubs, courses, events, teachers, students, and anything that affects the lives of students at Science Hill.

Improv Team

Purpose: To provide an opportunity for the students to engage in improvisational acting to develop their communication, acting, and critical thinking skills.

Rho Kappa

Purpose: Rho Kappa is the social studies honor society and seeks to elevate and encourage the study of the social studies among students at SHHS and the community. SH Rho Kappa will work in the school and community-wide to offer opportunities for learning and civic engagement.

Robotics Club

Purpose: The mission of Robotics is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators.

Scholars Bowl Academic Team

Social Wise Club

Purpose: To create a welcoming environment for the minority students to levy comprehensive and insightful information about their personal experiences while creating an environment where non-minority students can learn and ask questions freely creating a unified student body.

Purpose: To share the music and culture of Trinidad and Tobago through the performance art of Steel Band to share with greater community.

Student Activities Council

Purpose: The SAC is a student organization in charge of student activities planning, organizing, and implementing community service projects, school service projects, Homecoming activities, school dances, Thanksgiving Food Drive, and the Junior/Senior Prom. Additionally, SAC assists the cheer team with pep rallies and spirit events. SAC members serve as a leadership team with the principal. Students in all grades are welcome to attend meetings and help with activities.

Purpose: Expand the students’ knowledge and view of nature while enjoying a rewarding hobby and possibly career or way of earning extra income

Unity Dance Team

Purpose: This is a dance club for students to express themselves in a different form of art. You must tryout to be a part of this club.

Weightlifting Club

Purpose: To promote and encourage physical activity in youth sport, particularly the sport of weightlifting.

Purpose: Recognize and increase the number of women in the STEM field. Expose more students to the fields of STEM.
