Clubs

To enhance our student's high school experience, Science Hill offers a wide variety of clubs, teams, and organizations for students to become involved in.

 

Appalachian Service Project (ASP)

Jamie White, Celia Street

Purpose: To help eradicate substandard housing in Central Appalachia and to develop relationship between service-minded students, faculty and families while seeking significance within our community.

When: Thursdays (Every 2 weeks with additional meetings as announced) at 3PM, Room 405A

 

Army JROTC

Mike Mestan

Purpose: To encourage young people to become better citizens.

Asian Appreciation Club

Sean Samual

Purpose: Educate students about Asian culture and build community and friendship within the students.

When: Thursdays, when announced.

 

A/V and Esports Club

Micah Ridley

Purpose: To help students build confidence by preparing for real world events and improving communication while competing at top level events.

When: Mondays from 3-5PM & Thursdays from 3-4PM, Room 602

 

Beta Club: 9-12

Bess Laufenberg, Kiki Garman, Amy Rigsby

Purpose: Beta club provides top SHHS students with opportunities to lead and serve in their community. The club completes service projects that benefit Science Hill High School or the larger Johnson City community. To become a member, a ninth grade student must have earned two A’s and two B’s in the core subjects in 8th grade. A 10th-12th grade student must have a GPA of 3.5 or better.

When: Last Tuesday of each month from 3-3:15PM, Grand Topper Hall

 

Book Club 

Suzanne Reaves

Purpose: To promote a love of reading and provide space to discuss books in order to enhance social connections as students share ideas and perspectives.

When: Last Thursday of each month from 3-4PM, Room 511

 

Chess Club

Purpose: The purpose is to provide equipment and a location for students to play chess.

When: Thursdays from 3-4PM, Room A189

 

Club America

Purpose: To promote discussions about free thought and American values.

When: 3rd Wednesday of each month Thursdays at 3PM, Library

 

Coding Club

Purpose: Coding club uses programming languages to solve problems and explore computer science.

When: Thursdays from 3-4PM, Room 533

 

Creative Writing Club

Purpose: To promote students to write creatively while improving their writing skills.

When: Bi-Monthly on Thursdays from 3-4PM, Room A212

 

Culinary Club

Purpose: To promote and improve culinary skills.

When: One Tuesday each month (announced) from 3-4:30PM, CTE 940

 

Debate Club (Public Forum Debate Club)

Purpose: To provide an opportunity for the students to engage in debate activities on a competitive level to improve their communication, analytical and problem solving skills.

When: Mondays from 3-4P, Room A288

 

Disc Golf Club

Kiki Garman

Purpose: Practice the fundamentals of disc golf, including etiquette and competition rules. It is one of the most inclusive and inexpensive sports, any student who likes being outside will find disc golf enjoyable.

When: Every Friday (weather permitting) from 4-5:30PM (Winter Hours), Winged Deer Park

 

Dungeons & Dragons Club

Purpose: The Dungeons and Dragons Club at SHHS gives creative students an opportunity to socialize with other students, write adventures, and tell stories collaboratively with friends.

Fashion Club

Purpose: To help and guide students interested in fashion as a career path or a hobby to enhance skills on creating and designing fashion pieces in a self-expressive way.

FCCLA - Culinary Arts

Purpose: To provide opportunities for personal development, strengthen the function of the family, encourages democracy, encourages individual and group involvement, promotes greater understanding between youth and adults in a culinary context.

FCCLA - Topper Tots

Feed the Hungry Club

Purpose: To provide an opportunity for students to give back to the community by preparing sandwiches that will be donated to Good Samaritan to be distributed to the homeless population.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

Purpose: To share the music and culture of Trinidad and Tobago through the performance art of Steel Band to share with greater community.

Student Activities Council

Purpose: The SAC is a student organization in charge of student activities planning, organizing, and implementing community service projects, school service projects, Homecoming activities, school dances, Thanksgiving Food Drive, and the Junior/Senior Prom. Additionally, SAC assists the cheer team with pep rallies and spirit events. SAC members serve as a leadership team with the principal. Students in all grades are welcome to attend meetings and help with activities.

Purpose: Expand the students’ knowledge and view of nature while enjoying a rewarding hobby and possibly career or way of earning extra income

Technology Student Association (TSA Club)

Ultimate Frisbee Club

Purpose: To promote exercise, team work, and competition among co-ed students in grades 9-12.
